Line party stories might be passe on your site, but here in Salt Lake we hosted the worlds largest TheOneRing.net party of them all and I wanted to send you not only a report but pictures as well. We bought out a 500 seat theater for the 12:01 a.m. screening on the first night of the event. We met in Salt Lake's Olympic Plaza, gave out lots of amazing prizes and had a medieval musical troupe and medieval dancing. Borders and Badali Jewelry donated excellent prizes including a leather-bound boxed edition of the trilogy and a lovely rendition of the One Ring. Paul Badali was our guest at the screening but we weren't allowed to promote for him since it was related to the movie. He just gave us a gift out of the kindness of our heart. We also had a chain-mail expert and maker and invited 10 members of the media to see our show. Every one of our 516 seats was full and so many people were interested in our event that we refered them to the theater which sold out two additional 300 seaters. We also collected extra money from people if they chose to donate it and bought 35 copies of Fellowship Of The Ring for everybody in attendance between the ages of 12-18. The event turned out to be a smash hit and plans are already in the works to make next years bigger, better and more charitable. Xo - Thanks for all you do for so many so much of the time.

...our photos of our outdoor meeting two hours before the film including many in costume. In one shot we formed a giant ring around the Olympic fountain - turned off of course.

As part of the live entertainment at our Line Party the days leading up to ROTK were a bit more intense then most people perhaps. Daily rehearsals worked in amongst regular stuff like having enough clean clothes and dishes to survive for example. I stayed up a little later Monday so the next morning’s early makeup call time was a little harsh. After getting up and ready to go – our makeup artist was two hours late from oversleeping! However, in the end, I got pointy ears!! They looked good too, and Shawn (the makeup person) finished us up with 3 pairs of elf ears, 2 pairs of hobbit ears and 2 pairs of feet; not to mention the orc and a Gollum later in the day. So some food, a quick nap then all costumed up by 4:00pm for another rehearsal and travel to the theater. No liquids practically (or food – which doesn’t mix well with wind instruments) allowed after this point. We arrived right on time, set up and started playing about or just before 9pm. Unfortunately the unofficial “group” – no line up allowed until a certain time – migrated away from us so couldn’t hear anymore. So we up and moved, but then got worried about seating as all or friends/family/seat-saving buddies had disappeared into the raging 1000+ person crowd. Given the opportunity, we dropped our instruments and headed for our seats to get them arranged. I got separated from cousins and friends who came, but in the end did sit by fellow band members. Now the race was on to visit each of the 5 theaters/auditoriums to play for people in their seats and drum up business for our fund-raising raffle. The prizes included 3 beautiful hand-made cloaks and a pair of hobbit feat. We got a lot of great support from the fans who I think really enjoyed our “wandering musicians” show :) At the end of the evening we were happy enough with $70—the next day however we did a full count and came up with over $200! This will be applied to expenses related to our trip to play at the TORN Oscar Party in February :D

The movie itself? No words. I finally sat down exhausted with 3 minutes to showtime. Most of the first viewing was a delightful blur, plus a few checking off what did and didn’t make it from the book (this will fade in time I know). Myself and three friends caught a second viewing opening day afternoon on a wonderfully bigger screen with better sound (and full costume again :)) Oh, and I cried…a lot :) :)
